CD&R has been doing this since 1978, making it one of the very first private equity firms. They took ServiceMaster (Terminix's parent) private for $5.5 billion, bought David's Bridal for $1 billion and watched it go bankrupt twice, and hold a major stake in Safelite's parent company. When you need pest control, auto glass repair, or a wedding dress, there's a decent chance CD&R is somewhere in the chain.
